Can anyone look in the Parish Marriage Records Sept 1909 of Melcome Regis to see if there is a marriage for Rosa Palmer and Ernest John George, and if so what he has listed under rank or profession, please.

Hi
To lookup a marriage in parish records - you have to know which church it took place in
Have you checked the 1911 census for them as that would show his occupation
-
HI
I have been trying to find him in the 1911 census for ages, but with no luck. I have only found his wife and daughter in Portsmouth. I have tried many combinations and I thought if I had his occupation it might help me locate him.

Portsmouth is a Naval base , so it COULD be that Ernest is in the Navy and at sea at the time of 1911, I think it was only if the ships were in port they got included in the census

Jan57 could be on to something. The absent voters list 1918 South Dorset Division for 70 Newstead Rd has an Earnest John George listed.
No.6204. Under the description of Service, Ship, Regiment, Number, Rank, Rating etc it says for him
272519 E.R.A 2 H.M.S "King George V"

Hi Jan57
Where is the 70 newstead road, that you mention, is it in Weymouth. Because his wife came from the Weymouth area and also their daughter was born there. Ernest John was born in Pembroke Docks.
Thanks.

Hi Jan57
Also can I ask what 272519 E.R.A 2 H.M.S "King George V" the E.R.A 2 stands for. I know the first number will be his service no and also the name of the Ship, please.

I've no idea what the E R A2( that Deb Glaze mentioned) stands for

I have no idea what E.R.A.2 stands for I'm afraid. I copied the line as it was from the Absent Voters list. Maybe it stands for Electoral Registration Area or something like that. I think the first number is his service number and the name of his ship.

I think I've found it. ERA's in the Naval Service were Engine Room Artificers (Marine/Mechanical Engineering Maintenance Technicians). Looks like that might have been his role in the unit he was in.
