Hi all,
I know it is a long shot but here goes, my GGGgrandfather came to Guysborough Co. Nova Scotia in the early 1800s. Canadian census records have him being born in 1797, Ireland. Many of the Irish in
Nova Scotia in this area were from Kilkenny and a lesser amount from Kerry. Does any one have any advice on how I would find my GGG grandfather John Walsh's lineage.
Regards,
Chris

Your John was born a long time before the start of civil records, so you would need to search parish records for a possible baptism. You usually require a fairly detailed location to do this - e.g. the name of the town, townland or parish in Co. Kilkenny where your Walsh family lived. The surname Walsh is very common in the south east which makes the search difficult, so there were probably quite a few different John Walshs born in Co. Kilkenny around the same time.

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start? (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,498742.0.html)

Thanks for that, I appreciate the help! Hopefully the Parish church in Guysborough, NS. Has a record for my GGG grandfathers parish in Ireland. All the official records I have looked at just state Ireland
As his country of origin.
Cheers, Chris

From Guysborough I have a Levi Walsh, son John Walsh, daughter Margaret Walsh (b. 1872, Nova Scotia)
This is on the branch I am currently researching

Hi eacoady,
Sorry for the late reply. I do not know of a Levy Walsh in my genealogy but I have put the Walsh
Lineage on the back burner for now. I am currently working on two other branches of my family.
Here is my lineage thus far:
John Walsh b. 1797 Ireland Carpenter + Mary Mehlman/Melman
John Walsh b.1840 Guysborough Co. farmer + Desire Cook and I think another wife, not sure yet.
John S. Walsh b.1876 Guysborough Co. Farmer + Catherine Grace
Clarance Alonso Walsh b. 1903 Antigonish + Elenor Louise Macintosh
Regards,
Chris
