Silky, if you tell us the names/dates/places of birth for the children born to Samuel and Mary Ann in Kent it will give us a much better idea of the parents (Samuel and Mary Ann) and how/where to find them and their ancestors ;)

May be of interest:

There is a Samuel Britcher, son of Samuel & Mary, baptised 6 Oct 1793, in Chart Sutton, Kent.
Also a marriage for a Samuel Britcher, OTP, bachelor to a Mary Seeley, spinster of Langley in Maidstone 3 May 1791, married by licence.

The NSW Bounty Immigrants list has Samuel Britcher, a butcher, age 42, from Meo? near Kent, father Saul, also a butcher, mother Mary, arriving on the Cornwall in1839 with family. It would be worth looking at the original to check that father Saul isn't actually Saml?

The same list has Mary Britcher also aboard the Cornwall, age 43, daughter of William & Anne, born Ashfort Kent. A baptism found for Mary Head, d/of William & Ann, 21 Jul 1793 at St Mary Ashford Kent.

Hi And thank you all
yes it is the family on Cornwall Maryann's maiden name is Head on her death cert.
All children baptised Mersham.Edward and William must have died.I have seen the original document from ship cornwall and it does say Saul but it could be short for Samuel.Samuels death cert has no parents so I have no idea what is right .
Samuel died 17th Nov 1855 aged 65yrs Butcher
Maryann died 31st Oct 1878 aged 89yrs informant JB Hillier.son-in-law.

Hi All
it could be Maryanns baptism as she could have been 4 or 5 when baptized.
I wish I could read the actual baptism book.It is so hard when you are so far from England our homeland.Even though we have been here for generations the connection is still there. My skin knows where I belong .Scotland Ireland or England.......

Hi Silky,

The age on the immigration record could also be understated, particularly for Bounty immigrants it was common to shave off a few years to make you more eligible, I have examples of this on my own tree. I also relate to your frustration as all my research is done from the comfort of my home in  Melbourne, Australia and I would love nothing more than the ability to wallow in the Kew Archives (LMA, etc) for a month or so, although we are remarkably lucky with what is available on line and the generous and unlimited knowledge of Rootschatters is, of course, invaluable.

Regards, Jo  :)

Hi Jo
yes its very hard but thanks to WDYTYA I now know how hard it is to follow the right line you must find the church records if you know their parish and religion .Thanks also to the rootschatters they have found me so much.I went to England many years ago and got nowhere before the net.It is so much better now that I can search at home. You are right you need a month or so over there which I did not have and that is for one name only.It is very easy here in Australia if you have a convict, have so much info. Tassie was the dissapointment they threw most of their convict past into the Dewent River only one person saved some of the convict books. :'( silky

Hi All
found a Meopham 9 miles from Maidstone so that is what the Meo meant on document when Britchers came to Australia .
