I have a letter from E Hanson (female) to her friend Sarah Louisa Hall sent from Tutbury Sept 6th 1843. Sarah Hall was visiting England from Swan River Colony, Western Australia. The writer talks mainly of local happenings, and expresses concern that Sarah is soon to return to Australia.
Can anyone suggest who E Hanson would be and what her family connections are? Any suggestions would be most welcome

Linus - a search of the 1841 Census on FamilySearch for a Hanson resident in Tutbury Staffordshire brought several results, including an Ellen aged 35 (ie 35-39 as ages were rounded on the 1841) - a possible?

mshrmh - Yes, Ellen is indeed a possible, maybe even a probable. However the 1851 census gives us an Eleanor, but no Ellen. Both women married to a blacksmith. We will probably never know the connection with our Sarah.
Thanks for taking the time with this query.

Linus - if the ages & birthplaces are roughly consistent, allowing for 1841 roundings my guess is that Ellen=Eleanor unless there's a death registered in between. Names are similar enough for enumerator/transcriber errors to creep in. If this was mine I'd be checking for a death between 1841 & 1851 and for marriage(s) to get maiden name(s).
Best wishes!
