Title: Christina/Christian Chalmers, born circa 1822ish
Post by: Jessies Mum on Saturday 20 April 13 02:47 BST (UK)
Hope someone may be able to assist.  I am researching my 3x great-grandmother Christina Chalmers who departed London via Plymouth in 1848 to arrive in Port Adelaide, South Australia on 5 December 1848 aboard the "Duke of Bedford".  Christina went on to marry John Edward Haynes Williams and during her latter years, spent much time in and out of hospital, jail and the destitute asylum.  I have copies of admissions to each venue and on each occasion she states she was from Falkirk, Stirlingshire in Scotland.  There is nothing written on her marriage certificate or death certificate to state parents names or any other information - it is just the admission records that offer me this detail.  Can anyone please assist me?

This is the only one I could find born Stirlingshire but doesn't help at all with parents' names. Scotlands people is a pay per view site which may have record of her birth.  There is a tree on ancestry which has Christian married to John E H Williams and an article from Trove about his mistreatment of her. However they have her birth in Gorbals Lanarkshire with father James and mother Christina Martin but no sources given.

That's interesting, but definitely not Lanarkshire - and for it to be repeated so many times in the many admissions to the institutions, she is consistent in stating Falkirk and Stirlingshire.
What year is the information you have given me below crisane?

Hi,

Family search has these possibilities.

Christina Chalmers birth 2/10/1824
christening 28/11/1824, Falkirk, Stirlingshire.
Parents Livingston Chalmers, Janet Leishman

Christina Chalmers birth28/01/1827
christening 11/02/1827, Falkirk, Stirlingshire.

Did Christina & John have any children?

I think the first Christina I posted went on to marry another man (Murray Coventry) and was married for the 1841 census.
