Hi, I am looking for any information on the graves here at Ballymore Cemetery (near killinick). Maybe a register of graves or an index of who was buried where as many of the graves are now in ruins and unrecognisable. Any information at all would be great. Thank you

Cantwell's survey of Memorial Inscriptions titled 'Memorials of the Dead' covers three Ballymore graveyards in Co. Wexford. Some libraries have copies of this, as far as I know a library in Wexford
town has one.
Ballymore, CoI
Ballymore, RC
Ballymore Old
Often difficult locating death/burial records, since early (19thC and before) RC parish registers very rarely include details of these.

It appears that Ballymore old graveyard is located beside the ruins of an old CofI (or possibly pre-reformation) church in Grahormick townland, Ballymore civil parish and a little over 4km south of the town of Killinick. see : Ballymore Old (http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,705077,609576,7,7).
The 'new' graveyard seem to date from sometime around the 20th Century and is located in the townland of 'Ballyminaun Little' in Killinick civil parish and about 2km south of the town of Killinick.

Yes it is in Ballymore old. I have a few relatives out there, Can make out one of our graves but still missing at least three graves.
-
what are the names and dates you are looking for ?
I may be able to get a chance to look at the Memorial Transcript of Ballymore Old.
Brian Cantwell carried out his surveys in the 1970s and 80s and may have been able to make out a bit more detail on the older headstones.
I dont see any mention of burial records for the RC parish of Ballymore - up as far as the 1880s at least. When it comes to Church of Ireland records there are some parish unions involved - there are death/burial records back to 1832 for the parish of Taccumshane (Union of Kilscoran - which includes Ballymore), and death/burials for Killinick/Ballybrennan back to about 1800 - although these may not include burials for people that were not CofI.
CofI records are generally held by the Representative Church body library in Dublin, or the National Archives, although there may be some still held locally in the parish.

Ye I have heard about his works, hopefully the graves weren't too unrecognisable at his time of research. The names are Michael Whitty and his Wife Margaret Whitty (nee furlong) and also 2 of his sisters are buried there one of which would be Annastacia Whitty- Their son , Joseph Whitty is Buried here but his grave is recognisable.

Found just one mention of the surname Whitty for Ballymore Old -
Here lies the body of
William Whitty who depd
this life 5 Feb 1832 aged 40 years.
(no mention of any Furlongs)

Yes I have been out to Ballymore and that is the grave beside Joseph Whitty my great grandfathers brother. But As far as I have back in the family tree there is no mention of a William Whitty, which is strange.

Hi folks. I am looking for any info on Joseph Whitty who died in 1923 on hunger strike. He was aged 19 and died in Newbridge. He is buried in Ballymore old cemetery. Anything on his parents, siblings, etc. greatly appreciated. This is required for a book to be published next year. Patrick Flanagan
