Title: Prestatyn inquest 1890

Hi all,
I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction. I'm trying to get hold of (if it still exists) an inquest into my great x3 grandfathers death. He died in 1890 when the mine he was working in flooded, and the inquest was held in Prestatyn on 15th Oct 1890  - I have this info from a newspaper report at the time. Where would the inquest record be held now?

Hi - according to others who have answered this question on other sites, its either the coroners or

the local records office.

If you Google the question, you'll see advice on how to proceed.

Thanks for that. I was just hoping that someone would have the address of the correct office for the records at that time. I think it might be Flintshire Records Office in Hawarden, i'll have to give them a call on Monday

hello sarah   ive just seen your message  are you able to tell me where the mine flooding happened  I ask because my grandfather drowned in a mine flood in 1885  this was in a lead mine in llanengan  parish caernarfonshire        jim  ellis

Hi Jim,
He died in the Gronant lead mine near to Prestatyn, Flintshire in Aug 1890. It was owned by the Talacre Mining Company. I contacted the records office and they said that most of the coroners reports from that period haven't survived, which is such a shame. Have you got any details regarding your grandfather?

There is a report on the inquest here.

And here is a report that the proprietors of the mine were summoned with neglect.

Quite often a newspaper report of an inquest will give more details that the actual coroners inquest papers. I found that through my Gt Aunts inquest. There were  much more useful details in the newspapers.

Thanks for that. I had the report from 10th Oct, but not the one from the 18th Nov, so thanks. Good to know I'm not missing out on much by not having a copy of the actual inquest!
