Title: Glyn Roberts - 2nd WW
Post by: 'Trish' on Friday 14 February 14 19:57 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find out a little more about my deceased uncle who fought during the 2nd WW. I am told he was in the RAF, and was taken prisoner in Italy.  The family legend says he swapped his dog tag with his mate. His mate was killed.  My grandmother went to bed for months mourning his death. Later it was discovered that he was still alive.    Is there a way of finding his RAF records? Gynn was born Dec quarter 1921 in Blaina, S Wales the son of Thomas John & Sarah Roberts nee Austin.  Would he appear on an bsent voters list.  Regards Trish

Hi Trish

I've moved your topic from the county board to the Armed Forces section here at Rootschat.

Hopefully someone will come along soon with an answer for you.

And he won't appear on an electoral register until after 1946 as they weren't compiled during the war.

You can get the forms from www.veterans-uk.info but they will charge you £30 unless you can prove you are next of kin.  Please be patient if you do order them as they are taking a while to arrive (not as long as the army ones though!! You might also like to read Oliver Clutton Brock's Footprints on the sands of time which has RAF POW's in it though mostly Bomber Command.
