Post by: wentworth13 on Tuesday 25 February 14 09:39 GMT (UK)
Census 1901 look up please.  She appears on the census as a 26 year old and wife.  Reg district Newton Abbot. I would like to know who her husband was and if there are any children.

Thanks for that. Where do you think I should look for the marriage? Where is Glamorgan?

Glamorgan is South Wales.

Looking at freebmd for possible marriages, there are a surprising number of Hopkin Phillipss around, mainly Wales!

There is a marriage in Newton Abbot in Oct/Nov/Dec 1898 which looks promising, but the names are
Hopkin Phillips, Richard Sanders, Anna Marie Gaye, and Mary Elizabeth Williams.

So unless Minnie was actually an AnnaMaria or a Mary, it doesnt look so good after all!

Thanks  I did look at Family Search and came up with lots of Phillips in Wales  and a lot of Hopkin. What an unusual name but looks like a family name.  Like you I also saw Mary Ann Williams but no Minnie.  Seems strange that she keeps calling herself Minnie.  I notice in Cornwall where she was born that there are lots of Minnie"s.  This certainly makes it much harder.
Thanks again

What else do you know about her?
If you don't know her past (parents etc) , or her future (children or not) then I was wondering how you first came across her and what your link to her was?

Btw, if you look at 1911 census (look ups are not allowed, sorry) it will answer your question about whether they had children or not.

How I came about Minnie was I had a death certifcate arrive for Susan Oliver (which is all part of the family) and she was on it as a granddaughter as Minnie Phillips. If this is Mary E Williams that name is also part of the tree but will have to check more.  I only wish they had used other names as it gets quite frustrating trying to get them correct. Still I am coming along but with names like Oliver,Williams, now Phillips there are masses of them and they all seem to name the children the same. Many thanks for your help.  I am of the opinion that Minnie did not have children as I could not find any.  Hopkin's brother Thomas had a son with an Oliver (Jane I think) so the whole family of them must have been know to each other. Many thanks for your help

Sorry to jump on this thread. Minnie and her husband Hopkin lived (and died) in my house and I've been researching them both. I've been unable to find any children and when Minnie died, she left her estate to her Niece Emily.
