I recently found this photo which was sent to us in the 60's by our Grandmother, she always wrote little notes on the back of the photos but this one is blank apart from Gales Studios, branches in all towns. Can any of you fashion experts have a rough guess at the year.
Cheers

Hi Phil and welcome to Rootschat...I have asked a moderator to move your photo to the Photo Restoration and dating Board for a more informed response..Is it a postcard?

Hello, The chap appears to be wearing a primrose in his buttonhole. There was The Primrose League,an association for Conservative propaganda formed in 1883in memory of Disraeli .
Members wore a primrose, ( artificial in most seasons I should think).
Not sure when it died out.
Perhaps this will help you with dating. Viktoria.

It seems Gales Studios were founded shortly after WW1 and were taken over in 1930 so between those dates I would think.

Yes it is a postcard.
Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions.

Hi China
I think you are right there appears to be a faint date.
The tick in the corner is mine to let me know I've sent the picture to relatives.

Well...I have only been able to find one Gale's Studio card with a similar back, but fortunately there was a somewhat dateable woman on the front. Men's clothing is much harder. Anyway, I would say early 1920s for the woman I found, so as this photo has the same back it's likely in the same time frame. No stamp box, which is a shame since they are usually dateable.
This chap looks very familiar...are you sure it isn't somebody famous? People used to collect photos of royalty and entertainers, just as they do now :)
