There are no Vickers baptised in North Collingham on the Notts FHS Baptisms CD.

How sure are you that North Collingham was his birthplace? Is this what he gives on the censuses?

Is it possible the family were nonconformist?

Jill

I'm afraid I can't find the Elizabeth Vickers burial in N Collingham either!

The best I can find for John's baptism is:

Norton Cuckney
John Vickers born 20 Jul 1806 baptised 25 Dec 1809 son of William & Ann.

Probably not much use but could N Cuckney hav been mistranscribed for N Collingham on the census - or is he down as North Collingham on every census?

ADDED: I should have said that according to the CD, coverage of North Collingham PRs for the period you're looking at is complete.

There is a different John Vickers who says born Langwith around the same time, so much nearer to Cuckney.

The  North Collingham one is living at Thorney, so much closer to North Collingham.

Thanks, jaywit - that rules that one out then.

The only other suggestion I have is that this is extremely adjacent to the county border with Lincolnshire. I have ancestors who straddled this area, flitting from one county to another. Very frustrating!

Might it be a good idea to look in Lincs parishes near N Collingham?

That's just what I was thinking. I've found the same thing in the villages close to the Lincolnshire border.
