Hello
My ancestor William Watkins, husband of Anne Abraham and father of William Watkins, was born in 1800 in Cadoxton Juxta Neath to John Watkin
When did William die?
my thanks
-
William Watkins aged 37 of Tonna was buried in St Catwg's Cadoxton Juxta-Neath on 18 Aug 1836.
-
This is not him, William is recorded as being alive in 1851, living in Neath with his wife Ann and two children William and Lucy, William the Younger being my great great great grandfather.
-
What census do you have him/them on?
Full Information to date helps to narrow down..also you can look yourself at http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl With what info you know
Regards Cas

Yes I see him in 1851, but there is no sign of him or Ann in 1861, only William Jnr at the same address area.
The only William Watkins's in Neath who could fit (but whose age will not be indicated on the BMD index) are :
Jun 1857 Neath 11a 269
or
Dec 1860 Neath 11a 260

Thanks guys, I will check the death dates when I visit Swansea on Tuesday.
I did check, they are not on the 1861 census and the 1841 is not informative enough to be of much use
-
Would also check for Ann, there are only 2 one Ann Watkins, but another Ann Maria between the census reg in this area.
Good luck Cas

There's an Ann Watkins dying in 1852 in Neath
-
Just found this, William was still alive in 1861 :o
Head John Davis 41
Wife Catherine Davis 38
Boarder Wm Watkins 61
Living at 64 Church St, Garth, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, Wales
-
And the 1881 census
Head John Davies 60
Wife Catherine Davies 57
Father in Law William Watkins 78
Same address as 1871
-
He died in 1883, the birth age is a bit off, but thats because it was written incorrectly in the census
-
Hi I just joined this forum after seeing your post via a google search. William Watkins is also my direct ancestor and I also have 1883 as his date of death.
I wonder if you can cast some light on a family name change from Watkin to Watkins?
Lucy's baptism records show her as Watkin and I heard it said by my grandfather that our family was once Watkin but the name changed to Watkins following registration of a birth by someone who couldn't read or write and the registrar changed the name by accident. Don't know if this is true (I'm descended from William rather than Lucy, but it made me wonder)?
I would have sent you a pm but apparently I need to make 3 posts before I can do this!
Thanks
Lloyd
