Please would some kind person do a lookup for me from the 1841 census of East Kilbride, Renfrewshire?
My 3xgreat grandparents were James BARR and Margaret, who farmed at Busby Farm, East Kilbride. Their neighbours on the farm were Andrew THOMSON and Mary Barr, my 2xgreat-grandparents.
I would really like to know the details of the Thomsons and the Barrs at Busby Farm in 1841 - I have the 1851 census but a lot of the children had already gone by then, and Mary Barr was already a widow.
Many thanks - Jennie

Wrong County ...East Kilbride is in Lanarkshire you may get a better response there.
I've checked the 1841 east renfrewshire census with no success, sorry.

Hi Falkyrn
Thanks for your message and for looking for them for me ... strange cos the 1851 census was East Kilbride, Renfrewshire, not Lanarkshire. They must have done it differently!
Thanks again
Best wishes

Strange, the 1851 Index for Lanarkshire that I have lists East Kilbride as one of the 37 Lanarkshire parishes (no 643) ...... Busby is a different matter as that was Renfrewshire and is currently in East Renfrewshire ... its possible that your farm was one of those that straddled different boundaries

Yes Falkyrn, I am sure it was a "straddler"!! They were all married at Carmunnock, but they weren't in that census in 1851 so the farm must have been further west. I've tried to find Busby Farm on the old maps site but haven't had any luck yet. One will describes it as "Busbie Farm, Carmunnock" and another describes it as "farmer at Busby" ... so it's quite a large area to search through!!! I guess I was lucky finding them in the East Kilbride 1851 census and I am just hoping someone may find them in the 1841 for me!
Many many thanks again
