Hello I am trying to find the family information Birth/Bapt and Burial of
Henry Alexander born abt 1799 Wyverstone married 1st Nov 1827 The Parish of Elmswell. to Mary Ann Moyse born c1806 Yaxley!
Subsequent search of this marriage entry has revealed the witness were William Alexander and Susan Alexander (a possible brother!) I also found a brother to Mary Ann Moyse that of James Moyse whom married in 1833 at Elmswell
Henry and Mary Ann's children are as follows
Patience
Thomas
George
Mary Ann
Henry
Jane
William
all born from 1828-1851 at Woolpit
Are there any MI's for this family
Thank you
Murray

Hi Suffolk burial index has 4 Alexanders at Woolpit:
Henry 17/2/1870 aged 73 (so should be in 1861 census)
Mary Ann 25/4/1876 aged 72 note: suicide in fit of temp insanity
Sarah Elizabeth 31/3/1846 aged 5 months
Jane 18/6/1853 aged 12
will see if suicide is in historical papers..

WOOLPIT- Suicide of an Aged Woman.- Yesterday (Monday) an inquest was held at Woolpit. before G. A. Partridge Esq., Coroner, on the body of Mary Ann Alexander a widow, aged 72 years. It seems that deceased lived with a crippled son, who had been bedridden since November last, and for some time past the poor woman has suffered from depression of spirits. At about half- past six on Saturday morning the son (who saw his mother go up to bed between eight and nine on the previous night) called for her several times, but received no answer. About a quarter before eight a little girl named Clarke heard him calling, and fetched her mother, who, finding that the lid of the well was open, looked down it, and then saw deceased in the water. On the body being got out Mr. Leech, surgeon, was sent for, but he was of opinion that deceased had been in the well from four to six hours. Mr. Leech also said that he thought her son's state had preyed on her mind a good deal, and it was stated by the son that his mother had threatened to make away with herself.— The Jury found a verdict " That deceased drowned herself while in a state of temporary insanity."

Both Elmswell and Woolpit records are particularly well recorded on the internet. I found both these very useful for my research.

Re "nephew" in the 1851 census, the original meaning of the word was grandson, and, although obsolete in that sense now, I have found it in a number of 19th century censuses in Scotland meaning grandson.
