Title: Denton family, Abingdon 1876-1888
Post by: Connie Sparrow on Tuesday 19 August 14 11:10 BST (UK)
If any one has some spare time to see if they can find any of the baptisms of the following children I'd be very grateful.  They don't appear to be available online or on CD - unless someone knows better of course :)  I believe the parish was St Helen's, Abingdon

George Jewell SMITH b Q2 1876, d Q3 1881 (possible illegitimate son of Sophia Ann SMITH

Probable children of Harry/Henry DENTON and Sophia Ann.
Harry Ernest DENTON b Q2 1878, d  Q3 1878 (sorry missed him off my original post)
Willie DENTON b Q3 1879
John Herbert DENTON b Q1 1881, d Q3 1881
Fanny May DENTON Q3 1883 (maybe May Sophia)
Albert Archer DENTON Q4 1884
Harry Herbert DENTON Q1 1887, d Q3 1888

Hi Connie,

These baptisms taken from the Abingdon St.Helens transcripts (ex Oxfordshire FHS);

2-7-1878 Harry Ernest Denton s/o Harry & Sophia Ann, Zion Court, Labr, Private Baptism
2-11-1879 Willie             "        "             "    "            "        , West St.Helens, Boiler maker
27-1-1881 John Herbert  "        "             "                 -        , Zion Court, Labr, Private Baptism
7-10-1883 Fanny May     "       d/o           "                 -        , Zion Court,
25-1-1886 Alice              "         "            "                "       , West St.Helens, Private Baptism, (born 11-12-1885)

Burials;
13-2-1886  Alice Denton       8w       West St.Helen
31-8-1878  Harry Ernest Denton 4m     "       "
18-9-1881  John Herbert      "     9m     "       "

28-8-1881  George Sewell Smith 5yr     "       "

Unfortunately the transcripts don't say the names of the parents in the burials.

Couldn't find an entry for Albert Archer Denton in either baptisms or burials

Thank you very much! :D  That's brilliant!

Alice is a bonus because I didn't suspect her as being part of the family.

The cover I saw for the Abingdon OFHS CD only showed the baptisms going up to 1837.

Hi Connie,

The cover I saw for the Abingdon OFHS CD only showed the baptisms going up to 1837.
The CD I was using is;
OXF-AB01 Abingdon Reg. Distict Vol.1
and has records for 3 x Abingdon parishes + Abingdon Workhouse  starting from 1538 to (St.Helens) to 1993 (marriages)  & burials to 1891. Other parishes are more or less the same.
A good investment I think.

It must have been the cover for an earlier edition.

The CDs are good investments.  I have one of the Bicester set.  I also want to get one or two of the Banbury set.

I appreciate your help.  Thank you again :)
