This one has me defeated. A place of birth on the 1861 census (RG9/734/34/12):

...and again on the '71 (RG10/1265/34/9):

I think this is the same person on the 1881 census (RG10/1265/34/9), with a clearly different place of birth. However I wonder if this is a mistranscription in the summary of what the original census form said(??):

Thanks Carol. "Beaulieu" is the most obvious near(ish) match; could be an attempt by the enumerator to tackle the spelling!

My immediate reaction was 'Beaulieu'

Thinking phonetically it could be the enumeratorīs attempt to make sense of someone saying Beaulieu.
-
Snap Edward :)
We both had the same idea.

That would have been my choice but wanted to see if you came up with the same.

Right then; thanks all. That's enough of a consensus for me to go and start looking in Beaulieu.
I have to check the spelling every time I type it.
-
Thought Beaulieu was pronounced Bewlee.
Never mind :P ;D
