I've seen a tree that says that one of the people I'm researching was born in Standing, Clitheroe. Google and a road map draw a blank on a place in Lancashire called Standing. Can anyone help, please?

There are Lower Standen, Higher Standen, and Standen Hall to the south of Clitheroe, see the map at http://maps.nls.uk/view/101101385#zoom=5&lat=1720&lon=6917&layers=BT

Thanks Stan - that seems likely. It wouldn't be the first misspelling in this source!

There are a number of Lancashire names which have alternative spellings, for instance Fielding and Fielden, Holding and Holden. I suppose it's to do with the pronunciation, claytonbradley

Thanks. Yes, I can see (or hear!) how that happens. Thank you.
