Hi,
I have a Sarah Watts baptised 15 March 1774 in Halam, Notts, 1.5 miles from Southwell, parents Henry Watts and Elizabeth.
I also have the marriage of a Henry Watts on 19th January 1773 in Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire, some 25 miles from Halam. He married Elizabeth Haslam. The similarity of baptism location and bride's maiden name set off some warning bells. Is anyone in a position to check on the marriage record of the bride's maiden name to see if it really is Haslam. I am assuming the location is correct as Halam does exist.
The marriage is the only contender I have and the names and marriage date fit....and 25 miles between the 2 locations is still feasible.
There is a LDS microfilm reference #496692 for the marriage, which is available in their London centre, but their catalogue shows this to be for Devon!
Thanks if anyone is in a position to check.

I imagine the marriage is correct as -
1) it's in my marriage index
2) it has also been transcribed for FreeREG http://tinyurl.com/l5qmwvh
Film 496692 contains 2605 marriages, the majority of which were Lincolnshire* (although some from Berkshire seem to have crept in ::) )
*Four or five parishes of which one is Skellingthorpe.

As a rough guide, if you search for the surname Haslam in the 1841 cenus for example (chosen as it is the closest to your time frame) there are quite a number of people by that surname, mostly in the Lancashire/Derbyshire areas it seems. :)

Thanks for that Geoff & Ruskie. I wonder why London LDS lists the film as covering Devon…
Anyway, thanks for sorting that one. :)

Sorry I can't begin to guess why Devon is included in the LDS list .... :-\

Registers for more than one parish are often found on LDS films.
In this case it's because the entries are from Phillimore's transcriptions of the registers so are copies of pages in the printed book(s), and not films of the registers themselves. Hence the entries for parishes in the counties of Nottinghamshire, Cornwall, Berkshire, Lincolnshire, Somerset and Leicestershire, as well as Devon.

I've had a quick look. Seems to be mapped distribution only? Only 2 dates available: 1881 & 1998. I tried one search & spot on for 1881.
Cheers

Thanks pamthomas. Probably doesn't have more info than I already have then. Still, next time I'm there I'll have a quick look at the LDS film just in case. :)
