Can anyone help with a look-up in the Courier Mail, Brisbane, for any Death and Funeral Notices for Robert Hadden who died in Brisbane September 6, 1995 and cremated at Mt Thompson September 8, 1995. Only want to check issues 7th and 8th September 1995.
I would like to get a copy or transcript of the notices and would greatly appreciate any help.
Regards,
Ed

Hi Ed,
The Qld State Library hold the Courier Mail films and if you use the "ask a librarian request form" they might get what you need. I have been there many times and the staff in that section are very helpful but I can't get there at the present.

According to The Ryerson Index there are no notices for Robert HADDEN ??? 1995 or any year from 1980 to 2010. IN any State.

I could be wrong but looking at Ryerson Index, it appears that the Brisbane Courier Mail hasn't yet been indexed for the year 1995.

Ed most likely already has this info. :) and so he is looking for the newspaper cuttings.

Hi Gerry,
Thanks for your reply. You are right; the Qld State Library is very helpful. In fact I could not believe the extraordinary efforts they made for me a few years ago even tracking down and telephoning several relatives of a person I was researching to get a result …and much to my surprise they did get a result! However, of recent times they refer me to NSW State Library because I live in NSW and that is fair enough – only problem is NSW State Library is quite different! Quite different!

You are correct JM. I always check the Ryerson Index first but of course it does not have many Courier Mail notices. I really do only need the newspaper cutting.

Have you seen this photo

You're right, Ed, I guess almost 181,000 notices (current Courier-Mail tally) is not a lot among 4.5 million :P :P :P :P
And we are not yet back to 1995. Another volunteer and I are so far back to the beginning of 2000 only.
However, I do the Courier-Mail lookups and can look it up for you but I was in at SLQ all day yesterday and can't get there for another week or so, if you can wait that long.
Do you know for sure that there are notices on those days or are you just hoping so?
In the meantime, you might like to PM me your email address?

While I was at the Queensland State Library today I did a quick search on 6th, 7th and 8th Sept 1995 for Robert Hadden but I couldn't see a death or funeral notice.
I was in a hurry so I could have missed a notice so it might be best if DawnM checks again when she is in there next week.

Found him! on 13 September 1995.
In my Ryerson indexing, I have often found notices a week or more after death date.
Some funeral notices even TWO years after DOD - presumably people who had willed their bodies to a university for research; in Oz these bodies are buried/cremated after 2 years, with the Uni bearing the cost
Today I went for a sneak peek at our new Lady Cilento Children's Hospital which is opening end November (I used to work at the Children's Hospital next door). Our tour of the 14 floor, 359 bed place took just 40 minutes! So then I sauntered down to SLQ - well, caught a bus actually - as it was still open. And put in a few useful hours.
I'll PM you Ed, when I manage to get a snip from the page which is too big to go on here.
