Title: REID/GRANT INVERAVEN?
Post by: retiringmidgie on Monday 05 January 15 15:13 GMT (UK)
I am Looking for Births & Marriage [if there is one] of John Reid and Margaret Grant.  My GT GT GT Grandfather James Reid was born in Belleheiglash, Inveraven 1799 but cannot find births and a  marriage of his parents.  Would appreciate it if anyone can  help.

Thank you

Where did you get the above information from? What else do you know about James Reid?

Thank you for replying I use Scotlandspeople.  My Grandmother was Barbara Reid born Migvie 1877, her parents James Reid 1830 Bellehaiglash & Mary Gerrie 1837 Leochel-Cushnie.  His father James Reid Born Inveraven 1799 & Mary Glennie 1794 Culquhanny James's father John Reid and mother Margaret Grant.

I never mentioned James was a Mason and his father a farmer.

What I meant is, how do you know that he was born in Belleheiglash in 1799 if you can't find his baptism?

Apologises James Reid born 1830 in Belleheglash OPR and it states on marriage records for his father & mother that James 1799 came from Belleheglash too.    John & Margaret I can't find records for.

Midgie,  you might find that "Belleheglash" is listed elsewhere as Kirkton which is what it means.

Skoosh.

Absolutely correct. However this one is consistently mapped as Belleheiglash. See

What exactly is the source of this information, what is the date of it, and what is the exact wording of it? I really do want to try and help but if I don't have all the relevant details it makes it very difficult to do so.

I have marriage records from Scotlandspeople which says James b1830 gives his birthplace as Belleheglas Inveraven & registered Inveraven.  I have a Census record of
1851 with James his father born 1799 in lodgings at Brackley Cottage Glenmuick which states he was a mason from Banffshire, Inveraven.  A marriage record also from SP date 8/8/1829 which states James coming from Belleheglash.
Thank you for supplying the information for the maps of Bellehaiglash.  A place to visit I think.
Hope this information will help and thank you again.
