Hi all, you have all been of invaluable help in the last week or so, so I am going to call on your services once again, I am having great trouble deciphering a marriage record:

I cannot work out his occupation, both their places of residence and the initials of the du Preez witness.
The other problem record is Godfrey Charles and his brother's baptism they are the second and third one on the right hand page. I cannot make out their fathers occupation or their place of residence. I think it is Kroomdraai but am not certain.

Also does anyone know anything about the Railway Mission Districts in the Diocese of Pretoria.

He is a ganger on the railways. Place of birth Martizburg [Pietermaritzburg]. She is born Burgess Hill, Cape.
The witness is EK du Preez

The E. K. du Preez is the bride, the witness is in the bottom left corner.

I am not sure about Kromdraai in Natal, would it have still fallen under the Diocese of Pretoria. His brother's marriage record specifically states him being born in the Transvaal, Natal had annexed those areas after the war so they would not be considered the Transvaal.

There is a small village in the Transvaal also called Kromdraai. It is the site of the first Transvaal gold mine. It also holds a cave with some of the earliest hominid fossils. The mine closed in 1914.
That name? CJ Boor or CJ Boot. Neither of them common spellings. Could even be GJ.

Mmm that Kromdraai seems to be plausible. Thank you ;D
I am more interested in the initials of the du Preez under CJ Boor as that du Preez is highly likely a relative of the bride.

The other witness MJ de Preez is most likely a sibling as the writing is so similar that they may have learned at the same school. Marthinus Johanus or Maria Johanna.

Try a google search with 'burgers hill cape south africa '. It brought up a railway station in a very small place called Burger on the R365 in the middle of nowhere. There's also Burgersdorp in the Eastern Cape.

Hi thanks for the reply. I doubt that is the case. I am sure Burgersdorp would have been mentioned if it was that and the railway place is too far to the west as I am sure she would be from the Eastern Cape area. It is more likely that the place is in Natal as it is her place of residence, not her place of birth so might be in the PMB district near Hanover?
