The parents of my great aunt Maude (or Mabel) were William Stuart and Jane Scott. I cannot find mention of her on the censuses for Ireland for 1901 or 1911 or a marriage in Ireland. Maude's brother, Charles, emigrated to NZ in 1903. There is an entry for a Maude Stuart arriving in Wellington in 1898 and a marriage to Arthur Hill in 1902 on the NZ BMD website, no obvious children and early death. Perhaps Charles followed his sister? Any information gratefully received. Thanks

Hello...
As I read it, the following death notice is for Maude's nephew...

Perhaps, as the death is fairly recent (The Press, 11 Jun 2008), you can start a newspaper look-up thread. If there are any next-of-kin mentioned maybe they can help you.

Maude's brother, Charles, emigrated to NZ in 1903.

Many thanks for your help everyone. All the Stuart girls were very economical with the truth about their ages so short of sending off for some certificates I may not be able to pin down which entries are correct. Didn't know that the youngest son of Charles was known as keith so that is a help too.
Thanks again

Mmm... elimination I think, KHP, for this Maude HILL.
She is buried with Harold Ernest HILL who died 24 February 1960 - aged 77 [bc 1883].
They appear on e/rolls from 1928 at Dell Ave. Auckland.
[Can't see a New Zealand marriage for them though ? ]
~ Lu
Edited to add: Both on Parnell roll from 1914.

My Grandfather is Douglas Haig Keith Stuart (known as Doug) as mentioned by a couple of people on this post. If you would like any further information about him, or about our Christchurch based relatives (Charles' children/grandchildren), please get in touch. I am just starting my journey into my family history, as of today - and would be keen to get in touch with any relatives.
Thank you,
Evelyn Stuart
