My great grandfather, Robert Ness died at The Liquorstane Temperance Hotel, Falkland on 14 May 1897. His wife, Catherine and and two of their daughter, Ann and Mary were the hotel keepers after that.
Can anyone give me any information about this hotel or the Ness family who were carriers / coachmen in the Falkland area around the turn of the century.
Many thanks
Lorand.

Thanks for the info, Whiteout7. I do have a photo of the hotel but was unable to post it as it's too big.
Is the photo at the top of the Fife Family History Facebook page with all the people standing in the road, that of the Temperance Hotel, as it looks different to mine?

No but I think you have the photo. Unfortunately it did not link to it.
It is the photograph of the hotel with a cart infront of it. Looks like the Temperance hotel was on a hill not the flat.

Besty and Mary Ness appear to have been Catherine Dowies daughters from her previous marriage.
Robert Ness also had a nephew called David Muir (born 1864 in Glasgow) working for him as a cab driver in 1891.

I did not know that Catherine Dowie had been married before. They were such big families back then!
Yes, my photo has the cart in front, but I believe the two ladies in the photo are not the Ness women??
My direct line is from Christina Ness, the oldest daughter and my great grandmother who married James McCall. I would love to find a photo of her.

I notice that you also have Clarks in your ancestors.
I have John Clark b 5/2/1830, a coalminer and son of John Clark and Margaret Goodall.
John married Janet Gilmour and they had one daughter, Mary 1854 - 1940
Mary Clark married William Balfour 1846-1926.

My Clarks are unrelated unfortunately
