It could be the Maling Pottery. If you Google Maling Pottery Byker you will get plenty of information.

You can see the pottery on the map at http://maps.nls.uk/view/101099387#zoom=4&lat=3478&lon=2310&layers=BT called the "B" Ford Pottery.

From bykerlives.com:

1859. Robert Maling relocates his pottery from Sunderland to Ford St, Byker.

A journeyman is someone who has completed an apprenticeship, but is not yet a Master.

The Ford Pottery, Ballast Hills, later known as the Old Ford Pottery, was built by C.T. Maling in 1859. In 1879 C.T. Maling built the New Ford Pottery, and it was at one time the largest pottery in Britain.

Just to say that between about 1730, and the closure of the Maling New Ford factory in 1963, more than a hundred firms produced pottery in Tyneside.
