Hello,
I am looking for more information on the John Ackroyd family from Bradford. Here is what I have found:
Arthur Ackroyd b. April 8, 1893
Father- Frank Ackroyd b. April 20, 1865
Mother Ruth Holden
They were married Oct. - Dec. 1889 in Bradford.
I have found in the 1881 census records the following:
Ackroyd
John 59 cotton twister
Eliza 48
- Emma 17 worsted weaver
- Frank 15 worsted spinner
- Irvine 11
-Waddington 5
They lived on Beck Hill, North Bierley.
I am not positive this is the correct family but it fits fairly well as the birth year is right for Frank. I also did a search here & found a John Ackroyd whose father was James & mother Mary (Waddington). As John & Eliza (see above) had a child named Waddington, I am thinking that James could be John's father. ?
Any further information on John & his family would be greatly appreciated. I will do a separate post on Ruth Holden after I have found more on the Ackroyd's.
Thank you,
Donna

Thank you for the information! Most grateful! So glad to now have family info on Ruth. :)
My next logical step would be to find the birth record of John born (about) 1826 in Clayton. What records are available for this area/year?

Added - Just a bit concerned the age (of above) does not match that of the marriage age when marrying Eliza Kellett.

Wow! This is all falling in place now.
Now we have Joseph as John's father. The birth year seems right for John along with the name of the father. I think we are on the right track.

Is there any chance that you may know who the Mr Ackroyd was in the photo I have just attached to a message in this Rootschat page - https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=515813.msg3715824#msg3715824
Also you may be interested in the Ackroyd Family of the early 1600's who lived in Calverley and Eccleshill?

Thank you for letting me know. Something else that helped me a great deal were the West Yorkshire Land Taxes which are on Ancestry. I was able to establish when some ancestors died and who actually inherited the land. These records list tenants as well as land owners so most heads of families should show up. The heading says from 1704, but in fact they only have them from 1781. West Yorkshire Archives Service have 1705 - 1708.
