It came up on Ancestry - I was a bit loose on the spelling.

have you picked up on this bankruptcy?
https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/16474/page/690

This will might be of interest - no guarantee of a relationship, but it may have evidence
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D358850

added - just found the will n Ancestry. Not much help, just refers to children of his first wife Mary Walton

Thank you,Mabel. I do have the bankruptcy of Lewis and John and Lewis's will thanks to other Rootschat members. My family is Pinnell,Stent,Hughes and Martinnant, all in the London area.I found Peter Lewis Martinnant on Family search/IGI,but only his wife and children..........no parents, baptism or death. Is there any way I can find out when the Martinnant family came to England from France. I have found many Martinnants from Allier in France as they were Huguenots. The name has different spellings which makes life a bit difficult!!!.....but fun!!
Many thanks
Maggie

Morning Maggie,

There is a Georgiana H Stent on the  1841 & 1851 census for England. Georgiana is unusual. She died in 1865.

I have Stents in my family.
Emigrated to New Zealand in 1841.
I have Charles Stent,  arrived Port Nicholson, Wellington,  aged 20 yrs  single. Charles had left England just before the 1841 Census.
I have all the family history from his arrival to present day in New Zealand.

Can't find him in England. I have his death certificate: Parents Charles Stent, Mother Harriet, Maiden name unknown. How long lived in Country, 50 Years.

Regards
Tweedie2

 Good Evening Maggie,

This is the only info on Charles Stent of England.

Charles Stent was born about  1819 in England. He was 20 when he arrived in Wellington, New Zealand 1841. I have the passenger list.
Algernon  Tollemache of Ham House sponsored Charles out to NZ.
There is a little book called:
The 1841 Emigrants from Ham to New Zealand Sponsored by Algernon Tollemache of Ham House. Date 2003 from Richmond England by E Pritchard.
Another one: The Seven Servants from Ham. Just names, NO ages, Birth dates etc.

Charles death Certificate  says

Parents:  F. Charles Stent
M Harriet Stent,  maiden name unknown. lived 50 yrs in NZ
I have been through every county of England  micro fiche, BDMs and No Charles & Harriet Stent.
Charles died in 1891 in New Zealand.
Would be great to get through this brick wall.

I have Georgiana's burial  15th April 1865 Surrey England aged 66. Also Camberwell London.

John Baptist  bap 8th June 1783 Godalming, Surrey. John Died March 1/4 1853  Alverstoke, Hampshire.
Johns parents: William Stent & Eliz.

Hope you can make sense of this.

Cheers

Hi Tweedie.
Is it possible that Harriet could be the middle name of his mother? Could she have been Harriet something or something Harriet? Does it quite clearly state "Harriet" on the death cert and who was the informant of his death? We can't find a marriage for Charles and Harriet. Hetty? Hattie? Could it have been  second marriage? I found a Charles Stent 10 March 1793 born Sussex but he married Sarah Cooper who died 1848. Do you know when his father died?
Have you tried the National Archives in London?
We will keep trying for you.
Regards
Maggie

 Morning Maggie,

Trish sent me the 1841 census awhile ago. Was looking to see if Harriet may have had a Charles,  and why she was Head of Household, her husband was away or she was a widow. The 1851 census was when Georgiana H Stent came up as head of household.
I did find John B Stent on the 1841 census. He is in Alverstoke, Hampshire, his residence was Royal Hospital at Haslar.

The informant on Charles death certificate was his son James Stent. Could James have got Charles parents wrong!!

I did contact Ham House to see if they had any information, they put me on to a kind gentleman who had a look.  He sent me a scanned copy of the pages out of the first book I mentioned. Just where Charles Stent was mentioned.

Our Research Centre is closed at the moment for renovations till the end of the year.

Good morning Tweedie.
Well this is about a bad as my brickwall!! lol. I have Charles Stent senior born 10 March 1793 Coldwaltham Sussex. 1841 census and D.O.B index Fittleworth, Pulborough West Sussex. Parents George (spelt Georg) and Mary. Charles junior born 1819  West Sussex. Maybe "Harriet" was "Sarah Harriet"  and she was known by her middle name. I'm going to see if I can find the children of Charles and Sarah. It's worth a try.

Morning Tweedie.
There is conflicting info on Family Search. Charles Stent born in Devonshire and Bogna Regis, married to Sarah Peck with different marriage dates. No parents. So I'm going to get in contact with Bogna Regis archives. You never know we could get lucky. Do you have his marriage cert?

We will find him!!!!

 Good Morning Maggie,

I have just rung New Zealand Birth, Death, Marriages to order Charles Stent and Sarah Peck marriage certificate in the hope that his fathers name is on it.

Because the marriage was in 1849 it is a Historical Record.

Marriages in NZ were not required to be registered until 1854.

They did several search's. Couldn't find and records.

Cheers

This is interesting

Morning Tweedie.
Well this is a weird situation!!! Every parish in England has a register which the couple sign when they get married. Charles and Sarah must have signed something as she was underage.Do you know where in Wellington they married? Like the church or parish? Does Wellington have a BMD place? Like our National Archives maybe New Zealand BMD don't hold all indexes. I've applied to Fittleborough and Bognor Regis West Sussex registers to see if they have a record.
We will find him!!!

Hi Tweedie.
Very sorry about this but West Sussex archives have no record of Charles Stent 1819 anywhere in Bognor Regis, Fittleworth or surrounding areas. If you can send me your Tree name on Ancestry I will forward the e-mail they sent me.
I still think you should try to find the Church he got married in and then search their records. There's got to be a record somewhere.

Hi Tweedie.
The letter says it could have been Lower Hutt, Wellington where Charles and Sarah got married because that is where all the children were born,so I would see if there was a census from there that would help. Also there should be a Church entry.
Send me a message on Ancestry with your e-mail and I will send you the letter. My tree is "Tuckwood Tree- Gwendolen Tuckwood"
