Hi,
Can you give us some more detail. I can find hundreds of Johnstons in Armagh County.

Arthur Johnston c1829 - 1902
married Hannah Teresa O'Callaghan

What I am after is ancestors and descendants.  There are so many Johnstons in this part of the world that it is rather confusing.

Thank you for reading

It's even more confusing trying to figure out your posts  :-\

You've posted on the Armagh board asking for help with Armagh Johnstons. After fruitless searching for Arthur & Hannah in Armagh I finally found them in Louth not Armagh-

Probate of the Will of Arthur Johnston late of Lisdoo near Dundalk County Louth Solicitor who died 15 December 1902 granted at Armagh to Hannah Theresa Johnston the Widow.

I then found the family in the 1901 Irish census in Louth with the only mention of Armagh being birthplace of son-in-law Edward-

Arthur was born in England, so why look for his ancestors in Ireland??

He lived and died in Ireland I believe 1902?

You were the one who said Arthur died in 1902, I found him in 1901 census (in Louth not Armagh) and if you follow the PRONI Will Extract link then put in Lisdoo under remarks you will see the extract I already posted which gives the exact date then clicking on the image link allows you to read the wording of his Will.

If he was born in England then he obviously didn't always live in Ireland.

I believe his parents were gentry from Ireland " on tour " but returned home soon after his birth.

Thank you for the link, most helpful

According to this Arthur Johnston's wife was Hannah Theresa O'Callaghan- do you have their marriage record to see his father's name and occupation?

other children are listed in same site

You're saying you have everything and Aghadowey has used time to find stuff you don't have plus repeated posts and stuff you haven't looked for.. you have him in Armagh when Aghadowey found him in Louth..

They may have been gentry on tour BUT the father was born in England so his birth/baptism is probably in England not in Ireland.. Find birth/baptism in England and see who father was.

Arthur would have been born before birth registration in England and it may be difficult to find a baptism if you don't have a more exact location than 'England' but his marriage certificate is likely to list the name and occupation of his father.

Arthur Johnston (Lisdoo) was the son of James Johnston ( Carrickbroad). Carrickbroad was a townsland in Armagh on the border with county Louth. Thhose Johnstons had almost 2000 acres in Armagh and some land in Down too. James g g grandfather also owned Knappagh and other property. My wife is a descendant

Welcome to Rootschat, Dundalk4. There might be some information you hadn't seen before on this thread (and probably more available online since it was started). Do let us know if we can help you  :)
