Title: Murphy family Ballintombay/Ballinatone, Greenan, Co. Wicklow
Post by: sparksss67 on Monday 22 June 15 23:45 BST (UK)
Hi,
I am looking for descendants of the Murphy family from the above area who lived there in the 1870'/80s/90s.  Before moving to this area they lived in Talbotstown near Kiltegan where Michael Murphy was baptised in Rathvilly on 14 December 1862.   My great grandfather Daniel (Michael's brother) married Bridget Keeley (Murray) in Aughrim, Co. Wicklow on July 6 1899.

Daniel had brothers Patrick, Michael and Laurence, sisters Catherine who married a Patrick Riddick, Elizabeth who married Bernard Kavanagh, Rosanna who married Robert Ward and Mary who married William Townsend.

Michael and Laurence worked for Guinness when the family moved to Dublin in the late 1800s.

The parents of all the above were Patrick Murphy and Ellen, nee Broe/Brow.

Thanks for any help.

One has a daughter and sister called Ellen, you don't name a sister Ellen but it is interesting that is your family's mother's name.

Thanks for the welcome Sinann.  From our research it appears the Grey Sq family is the one from our line.  I forgot to put Ellen in the op sorry, as we have very little info on her, whether she married or not or what happened to her, almost the forgotten family member.

Yes we have looked at the Guinness employee records thanks, and they were very helpful with dates.

Michael's line would be one of the families we would love to make contact with if any are around today.  He died on 4 May 1918 and is buried in Glasnevin but he appears to be the only one in that particular plot for whatever reason.

His brother Laurence died on 21 February 1928, not sure where he is buried and we know he had a daughter Elsie whom my father thinks may have gotten married and lived in the Monkstown area but is not 100% sure.

The father Patrick died in 1894 but again we are unsure where he is buried, the mother Ellen lived with her daughter Rosanna and her husband Robert Ward in Roachestown, south Dublin until her death in 1921 and again we are unsure where she is buried, possibly/probably Deansgrange.

It can be harder to trace a family forward rather that back due to data protection issues and of course Murphy is a difficult name at any time.
This site is very good for Deansgrange Headstones although not complete yet.

It's good to have links to the Census in case someone researching the family finds this.

Thanks for that further information Sinann and great suggestion to keep the census link here as a sort of sign post for other potential family members who may stumble upon this thread.

Hi Tara, in this thread we are really just trying to find out if there are any Murphy descendants around today.  Patrick Murphy and Ellen Broe had 10 children that we are aware of.  Recently we were contracted by the decendents of their daughter Ellen, who now live near New York which was quite exciting as we knew nothing about them beforehand.  So basically by putting this thread here maybe someone connected with the Murphy family will stumble upon it and connect up with us.

Thanks Tara and for your help on our other thread also.  Funnily enough I have reread this thread and see I mentioned that Ellen was almost the forgotten child.  I made that post only back in June and since then we have found out so much about her and her family and decendents.

New records are being released all the time.

I find just 'parking' a branch for a while and then coming back refreshed and with new eyes nearly always yields results.

HA Sure just the other day I was looking through some church records to help someone on here and lo and behold I found the baptism for my Great Great Grandad's brother.

Pure Fluke  ;D

Good result and same thing here, while trawling the registers round Enfield my brother found some of his wife's ancestors he had been looking for elsewhere.
