Title: Mary Leahy & Edward French
Post by: aussie-girl on Monday 27 July 15 06:51 BST (UK)
Gathered info is very confusing, so looking to straighten it all out, please.
Mary Leahy was born in Co Cork in 1837,married Edward French in York ( WA ) in 1863.
Edward was born in Messing, Essex in 1826, died in 1875 in WA. They had 2 sons, John Joseph 1866-1941 & William Thomas 1871-1839
Did Mary remarry  a Patrick Egan in Perth  in 1876 & was William buried under the name of Egan..
Or are they 2 different families   ??????

Hi Aussiegirl,  It might be sensible to use RChat's own "search" option and look for posts by Velcro re FRENCH.  I seem to recall many posts re the Western Australia family, but perhaps the posts were on the USA board....

Here's one from the Aussie board

I have now established Mary married Patrick Egan in Perth 1876. They had a son Patrick Joseph on 19 March 1877. They left Australia & arrived in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts in 1879.
Where would I find confirmation of their departure from WA ,please .

On your other current thread I asked if you had checked the signatures from the 1863 marriage with the 1876 marriage.  I also asked about the denomination of the clergy for the 1863 marriage (among other details).   Perhaps you could respond to those questions.  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=726844.0

Have you checked out the many resources listed at RChat's Western Australia Resources Board?

Re outward bound shipping .... Perhaps you need to determine which port?  I suspect Albany would have been the port in the 1870s.

There has been much discussion re Patrick Egan's depature from WA on RChat and online elsewhere. Perhaps you should consider contacting one of the family members and share efforts:

It may well be that you will need to physically attend and check through the offline records held by the Battye Library.  http://www.slwa.wa.gov.au/find/wa_information/battye_library

slight side track but there's a death of a ten month old in 1893 in WA that could be part of this family....

Lily French EAGAN, father as John.... #61

Add
likely Lily's birth was registered in 1892, Guildford district #442 as Lily EGAN, father as John French, and mother as Mary Peterson French.

Hey all,

I'm hoping for your assistance with this one.

i suspect Patrick Francis Leahy 1877-1944 Perth was born John Joseph French.

I'm thinking Mary and Patrick put him and his brother William up for adoption before their departure to the USA.

thoughts?
