I have Hood ancestors in Ballinderry area of Antrim circa 1789. Hood does not look to be an intrinsic Ulster name. It seems to me that Hoods might have come to Antrim in The Scottish Plantations. can anybody shed any light on this for me?
Thanks

Type in surname and click "Go". This will give you some info on the name, also distribution based on Griffiths Valuation.
Hope this helps :)

What information do you already have?
Here's your other post where you mention Robert and Ellen Hood.

I have Samuel Hood b1852, m. Fanny Winning in 1879 in Ahoghill/Gloonan. Samuel's father was Samuel Hood - not sure where from,he is on the Griffiths valuation of Antrim but it does not give much.
The Robert, Ellen and Samuel (son) are one family - Im not too sure they are related to my Samuel Hood b1852 - Im researching if they are maybe brothers.
Im not too sure how to get Samuel Hood b1852 parents details as on his marriage Certificate it only states his Father as Samuel, a weaver.
Regards

Hello. Hood is an anglicised version of the Irish names in County Antrim from Mac Huid and Ó’hUid. Confusingly, most Hood’s in Northern Ireland are of Gaelic origin whereas those in Southern Ireland with the surname Hood are from English plantations. Mahood is also a common anglicised version of this name in Ulster.
