Title: Cranage Hall Hospital and School
Post by: Suzon on Tuesday 25 August 15 16:18 BST (UK)
I'm writing a memoir about our daughter who had cerebral palsy, and lived in Cranage Hall Hospital from 1975-1982. Would be most grateful for any information people might have, either about the hospital, the staff or the school, or leads to where I might find it.

Welcome to Rootschat

Mr Google has a number of possibilities - I just entered Cranage Hall Hospital.  It looks as though the records are now held at Cheshire Archives.

Thank you for such a swift response! I shall follow it up but I'm  also trying to find teachers who may have worked in the school. Perhaps local newspapers could be a good resource?

You could be right.  It's certainly worth a try - if you don't ask the question, then you don't get an answer  ;D ;D  Whilst Cheshire Archives have the records - these may also include staff, as well as patients.

I used to volunteer in the volunteers' canteen from 1981 or 1982, but other volunteers I still know are older than me, so I don't know if they would be able to help. I know at least one of the staff went on to work with Alternative Futures, but I think she is retired by now. We had/have a club in Congleton and at that date a large coach used to come on Friday evening of residents with a few members of staff, best wishes cb
