Hi all
You have been brilliant in helping me trace two of the relatives of my uncles crew, lost over Nürnberg 28/8/1943
I am now looking to trace relatives of George Charles BURTON, Mid Upper Gunner.
Flying in Stirling Aircraft with 620 Squadron
Age 20 at time of death. Son of George Edwin and Emeline E. Burton, of Harlow, Essex.
I can't find relatives on Ancestry or Genes?
Can you help? I have info on the crew I would like to pass on to George Burton's family
Many thanks
Paul

It looks as if there might not be any direct descendants I'm afraid.
George E Burton married Emeline E Woolcott Sept quarter 1920 in Southwark.
As far as I can see, George was the only child of this marriage
Births Dec 1922
Burton George C mother maiden name Woolcott
B.Stortford

Possible death for Emeline
Deaths Sep 1959

Strange, I can't find a birth for an Emeline E Woolcott.
There is an Emeline Elizabeth Brace born Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire, 1896, but at the moment I can't connect her with Woolcott.
-
Emeline Elizabeth Burton died 9th July 1959, she was a widow. Her address at the time was 5, Roseley Cottages, Eastwick, Harlow, Essex. Administration of her estate was granted to Jane Judith Woolcott, a widow. She left about £329.

There is an Emeline Elizabeth Wollcott born 1895 Southwark

Good find, Cath!
In the electoral registers of Southwark 1934 there is a Jane Judith Woolcott and a Mabel Hester Woolcott.
I think Mabel Hester is the daughter of Jane Judith and Charles Woolcott ( a gas fitter) and was born in Southwark 28th Dec 1903 according to her baptism records.
(NB There is also a Mabel Esther Woolcott born Southwark 1905, but I don't think she is connected)
-
I think that Mabel may have been Emeline's sister. It does look as if there were about 9 children in the Woolcott family - all girls, so there may be some nieces and nephews about, but harder to find as you would need to trace all the girls' marriages.
Here is the family in 1901
Charles Woolcott 41 Ind Gas Fitter
Jane Woolcott 28
Jane Woolcott 7
Emmeline Woolcott 5
Dorothy Woolcott 4
Florence Woolcott 3
Phoebe Woolcott 2
Jessie Woolcott 1/12
-
Looks as if Dorothy died 1916 and Florence died 1965, both unmarried.
Phoebe's marriage
Phoebe Woolcott
Spouse: William Nash
Oct-Nov-Dec 1925
Southwark
Volume Number: 1d Page Number: 37
Can't find any children from this marriage!

I can't find a marriage for Jessie - it isn't the Brighton one in 1925.
I'm afraid it's starting to look as if the family may have died out on the Woolcott side anyway. The Burton side will be harder to trace as it is a common name. I had an uncle by marriage who was a Burton from the Southwark/Camberwell area, but I don't think there is any connection.

Very many thanks for your help!
You should be detectives!
Kind regards

Hi,
In case it helps I think this is George Edwin BURTON's death,
George E BURTON Mar Q 1958 Bishop Stortford 4b 19
Age: 74
Probate
BURTON George Edwin of 78 Eastwick Road Eastwick near Harlow Essex died 2 February 1958 at Herts and Essex General Hospital Bishop Stortford Hertfordshire Administration London 11 March to Emeline Elizabeth BURTON widow. Effects £179 17s 8d
That would make him about 38 at the time of his marriage to Emeline, I wonder if he could have been married before?
Regards,
Daisy
