Can anyone tell me where this chapel is? Guess it was 1880's - 1900
-
I wondered if it was in Anglesey as my grandfather was a preacher there
-
Looks like something I've seen as a Quaker house - somewhere??

That may be a strong pointer, but its appearance doesn't remind me of Anglesey - the rounded corners of the building, for instance. Is any detail visible over the door, or in the look of the men?
-
Have you tried to take the photo out of its frame, to see if there is any writing on the back of the photo?
-
Do you know what denomination your grandfather was a preacher for ?
-
He was a congregationalist but it is interesting that someone mentioned a quaker chapel as on of my great aunts was a quaker - the only one in the family. No writing on the back or inscriptions I can read. I know it is nothing like the Anglesey houses but the house to the left is similar.

I have just had a thought after really looking at the dress of the men in the photo. My great grandfather was a calvanistic methodist minister and having looked on the internet some of these chapels did have rounded portions. The brick facing is so unusual and I have never been able to find out any more about it - somewhere there must be a record of it. There was a quarry in Penmon that had stone like this and there could be a connection
-
Does anybody else have any ideas about this building please?
-
North of England? or Northern Wales? The stonework is quite crude!

I think if it is a typical Welsh chapel it would have a date and a biblical name on the gable end, such as Bethel or Moriah or Ebenezer - one reason why I was put off Anglesey. But if it's not a Welsh denomination, perhaps not?

I have seen something very similar in The Rossendale valley. Possibly Rawtenstall or Crawshawbooth. There was a little watercourse running by. I can`t for the life of me remember where it was, sorry.
Hope you find it. Viktoria

Here's Viktoria's suggestion - one for comparison. Two levels as well. Possibly from front, and Gilly's one from the back??
Removed incomplete link.
New link.

Just found their Facebook Page. Lots of photos in there, but again mostly at a different angle. It's a listed building. But if you are registered for Facebook, you can post up a copy of your original photo, And someone maybe able to confirm or deny for you. Looks like a friendly bunch, - well of course they are, they're "Friends", and if it is the right place, they will probably be very interested.
Someone will maybe be able to name the people in your photo - wouldn't that be good!!

I'm a great wishful thinker! 😄😄

Many thanks - will see if this leads anywhere. Gill

The Mystery is solved! I put the photo on to the facebook page for friends of Menai Bridge in Anglesey. A kind gentleman found it on googlemaps/photos for me and it still stands in Pentraeth Anglesey but the front wall has been taken away for parking and the chapel itself turned into flats. The stone cladding has been left intact. I was delighted as I now know where it is exactly and it rekindled memories from childhood of visiting people in nearby cottages with my taid as a child of 5 or 6.

Is this the one Gilly, Old Ebenezer Chapel, Pentraeth, Anglesey
