Good Evening,
I am searching for:
MARTHA MILLER
d.o.d.- September 1995 - Brentwood, Essex.
Her Mother and Sister are buried in Crow Lane Cemetery.
I tried a search with above cemetery, no success.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Joan

Are you sure she was buried and not cremated?
-
Hello,
I do not know if she was cremated or buried, all I have are the death date, and where it was registered.
Thank you for getting in touch with me.
Joan

Crow Lane Cemetary is in Romford but Martha's death was registered in Brentwood. Depending on exactly where she was living at the time of her death Crow Lane would have been very roughly 20 miles away.

Unfortunately there is no probate application as that would have shown her address. It's quite possible she was cremated so you need to investigate both
Was she married?
-
Good Evening,
Yes, Martha was married to Arthur Miller - 1940 - Liverpool North, Lancashire.

Martha was married to Arthur Miller - 1940
No birth in 1940. Martha was born 1920 according to her death reg

Cremations at that time for Brentwood people were generally at the Crematorium at Upminster
Burials most likely would have been in Woodman Road Cemetery, Brentwood.

Hi CaroleW,
Martha was born in 1920, and married in 1940.
How do I investigate?
I live in Canada, and do not know how.
I mentioned Crow Lane, because of her Mother and Sister, however, she could be buried, or cremated, anywhere.
Thanks .

Hi Lizdb,
Thank you for the information you sent.
I tried searching on both, no luck.
Joan

Good Evening CaroleW, and Lizdb.
I have sent a request to Brentwood Registration Office.
We shall see.
Joan

Thank you for the information you sent.
I tried searching on both, no luck.
I don't think either have online searchable records. You would need to contact them.
I see you have contacted the Register Office. They may have been where the death was registered, but would have no say or record of whether there was then a burial or cremation or where it was.
A copy of the death certh (have you got this?) would tell you exactly where she was living and where she died, i.e whether it was Brentwood itself or somewhere in the area, so might be worth getting.
Maybe that is what you were after from Brentwood Register Office.
-
Also
The main Funeral Directors in Brentwood are Bennets, High Street. So you could contact them to see if they have any records.
Of course, they may not have been the ones that arranged the funeral, or even if they were may not release information, but no harm in asking.
-
Hello Lizbd,
So sorry I have not responded before this, darned computer problems!
I have contacted Bennets funeral home.
Very helpful person has checked and cannot find Martha.
She has tried other funeral homes in the area, - no luck, is still searching.
Martha may have been cremated, and the remains are still at home, I know many people do this.
However, there should still be a record.
The search continues.

Have you got tbe death cert yet, to see what area we are actually looking at?
She may have died in Brentwood area, as she happened to be there, but come from elsewhere, and the body taken back home for burial.
-
Hi Lizdb,
No, do not have the cert.
I do know her husband, Arthur Stephen Miller
died in 1993 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, and I believe cremated September 15th 1993, West London Crematorium.
Is this in the same area?
Joan
-
Not at all!
Blackburn Lancashire is in the far North of England, hundreds of miles from London
Brentwood is in Essex, which is to the east of London in the south of England. About 25 miles from London, eastwards.
And presumably west London Crematorium is in West London.
----------------
I don't think you can make any sensible progress with this without first getting a copy of the death cert to see where she died.
First though, have you looked for a Will?

-
Hi Lizdb,
Thank you for info re: Blackburn and Brentwood.
I sent an email yesterday to the West London Crematorium, awaiting reply.
Very good site you sent , wills and probates, checked, could not find her.
Search also for her husband, no luck.
Joan
-
Still think you need the death cert!
I cant think of why someone dying in Brentwood would be cremated in a West London Crematorium, unless they actually lived in an area covered by West London Crem, but happened to be in Brentwood for some reason when they dropped dead, thus body returned to home area for cremation.

Good Evening,
I now know the burial site for Martha!
She was cremated, and is buried in Memorial Gardens South Essex Crematorium Upminister.
Pl 5783 Rose Bed 42.
Does anyone live close to this area, and could take a photo for me?
I would greatly appreciate an email.
Many thanks,
Joan (Canada)
-
Hi Joan
It is almost a certainty based on your description that her ashes were scattered in a flower bed containing roses.
The rose would only have been marked with her name for 10 years.

you can confirm this with Bereavement Services at the crematorium
