Is there anyone on this board who is willing to carry out research at Berkshire Archives. If so can you PM me details.

Hi oldbones :)

I hope you don't mind me hopping aboard your thread.  Sorry I can't help you but I made a similar request a year ago at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=714768.

Anyone able to help us?

Carol

Berks FHS used to keep a list of professional researchers willing to do work in the BRO -I suspect they still do.

Alternatively you could as the BRO themselves, they will probably have a similar list.

I doubt either will recommend any researcher above another (not wanting the blame if something goes awry).

Thanks newburychap :)

The annoying thing is I lived in Reading years ago, and never dreamt I'd need to look at any archives there ::)

I'm not really in a position to pay professional rates but I'll contact BFHS and BRO as you suggest.  You never know, someone might have a spare 20 minutes ...............................

what are you looking for?

Sometimes people pop-in on the off-chance and there isn't time to swap pms for the details.

Sorry Dawn, I've only just seen your reply :-[

From PMs, I think oldbones is on the way to a solution .............................

What I'm hoping for, as per the linked thread, is that SKS can have a look for my chap in Abingdon and/or Reading prison records.  I couldn't see a 'Help' contact on the BFHS site, and other matters mean that I haven't had a chance to look at BRO resources yet.  Will try tomorrow.
