I am trying to find any info on Matthew Riddle/Riddell possibly born Northumberland, England. He had a son George Riddell who was born in 1825 at Bebside, Northumberland. George married Jane Unsworth in 1850 at Sunderland, Durham. Matthew and Isaac Unsworth (who is Jane's father) were witnesses when George and Jane were married. Any info would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for replying. I have looked at these records but I not sure is this is the family I'm looking for even though eventhing seems to tie in apart from one thing. On the 1851 census there is a Matthew Riddle and Isabella Riddle and also a daughter Isabella Riddle living in Sunderland which I thought was the same family but I noticed Matthew Riddle came from Haydon Hill, Northumberland. There is a Haydon Bridge, Northumberland which states that the original village was built on a hill but don't know if theis is the same village. I have also researched the Riddles/Riddells of Shilbottle, Northumberland where a George Riddle from Hazon, Morpeth and a native of Shipley married Isabella Air from Co. Durham. Hazon was also known as Hazon Mill and I wondered if Haydon Hill should be Hazon Mill and the enumerator who did the census misheard and wrote down the wrong place

I am not sure,
My Riddle/Riddell family are a nightmare at times
Matthew being a glass maker is quite fascinating
Hartley and Sunderland both being glass making towns
-
My ancestors were in the glass making trade and shipyards in Sunderland but it is Haydon Hill that is the mystery.

was there a occupation on his marriage certificate

I will leave it here for now
possible brother George baptised 1795
in Snitter 1841
and Earsdon 1851
this would be far better being posted on the Northumberland boars, where it would receive far more attention x

Matthew and Isaac Unsworth (who is Jane's father) were witnesses when George and Jane were married.
Can you confirm that Matthew is also shown as George's father on that marriage cert?
-
This appears to be Matthew's baptism if you do not have it. NB it says George is of Hazon

I agree with you davidft
this is where I extracted Matthews brothers baptism from
20th December 1795
so Haydon could indeed have been Hazon

Matthew is named as George's father on the marriage record
