The National Library have got a new search page - it is so much easier.
If you agree send them a comment and lets hope it stays that way.
-
Good to know, thanks
-
That looks like the search page they had before they ... err ... 'improved' it

Apparently the Marriage Bonds are still in there, but I can`t find the search page and if I did it would probably have changed .

Thank you so much for this search link. The NLW has become virtually incomprehensible, without this I just wouldn't be able to find any Wills at all!
Much appreciated
Cheers

An easier link, but I still have problems finding marriage Bonds.
-
The functionality of the "Wills" search screen hasn't changed - the changes are "cosmetic".
Re.marriage bonds see https://www.llgc.org.uk/index.php?id=6843
Tab down to "How do I search for marriage bonds"

Well after trying to find them from the instructions given on the link I gave up.
How do I search for Marriage Bonds?
Following user feedback, we are currently investigating the possibility of creating a bespoke search form for the marriage bonds collection.
Obviously this hasn`t been sorted as yet
For the moment, to search for the marriage bonds:
1.Enter your search term in the Catalogue "John Jones eg"
]
2.Select 'In the Library' from the drop down to the right of your search term
3.Click Search
4.In the left column under 'Collections' select 'More Options'
I got as far as this and could find no column for marriage bonds.
5.Place a tick in the 'Include' column for 'Marriage Bonds' There isn`t one I could see
6.Click on the red 'Continue' button
7.The box will close and the results will include only marriage bonds
So that didn`t succeed.
I then tried this but just as useless.
https://goo.gl/nd3sbo
This link will take you to the Marriage Bonds . All 76,179 of them . ::)
All I can see is that you can “sort by” Relevance
Date-newest
Popularity
Author
Title
If you sort by title then you get names alphabetically from all dioceses.
As far as I can work out it will take for ever and a day to trawl through all those in the hope of finding the one you are searching for.
If anyone else has ideas, please let us know

I've tried the following but it just takes you around in a circle:
On the enquiries page type "Marriage Bonds" in the basic search box and submit.
This takes you to Knowledge Base Results in www.questionpoint.org
Click on Question 1 "can I find the Marriage Bond of my grandparents"
This opens an answer page which says that Marriage bonds can be found by searching the Library's catalogue and gives you a link, but the link just takes you back to the Welsh version of the Catalogue page.
I wonder should it actually take you to a Marriage Bond search page?
What do you think? might be worth asking NLW about it?

The date on that image is 2011.

I have managed to follow the instructions, but in Welsh.
Can not find the English equivalent to http://darganfod.llyfrgell.cymru/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?vid=44WHELF_NLW_VU1&prefLang=cy_GB which is my starting point
-
https://www.llgc.org.uk/index.php?id=1
name in search box, chose "in the library" in the next box.
search
go to collections in refine my results
choose more options
tick include "marriage bonds" in the next list of choices
click continue.
It worked for me using John Edwards but not for Griffith Roberts
-
I have been puzzled by some of the responses when clicking "More options". For example, if you are searching only on a common surname eg. "Jones", no marriage bonds hits are identified on the response screen. However, if you search for "Richard Jones" it returns 872 "hits".
I've tried the same with Davies, Roberts, Thomas etc - common surnames. No marriage bond hits are returned. But search for John Roberts or David Thomas and you get hits.
However, search for an uncommon surname only eg Bell, Lodwick and the response screen will show hits.
-
it`s very poor.
I tried advanced search for Edwards. In the RH side box , search scope at the bottom there is "marriage bonds"
Result -
0 Results for Marriage Bonds
Unfortunately there were no results for your search. Try some of the suggestions below as you search again.
On the bright side there were 2,576 for Wills
-
The common surname Edwards alone as a search key draws a blank re marriage bonds. But use with a given name eg. John Edwards and it returns 679 "hits".
It would help if, under common surname only searches, the response was positive rather than returning an apparently "nil" result.
Let's hope the pespoke screen is delivered. blank.

I contacted NLW on their Facebook page.
Here is my post and their reply.

Many thanks for your enquiry.
You mention that you got as far as point 4, did you see 'Collections' in the left column, and then click on 'More options' at the bottom of that list? Marriage bonds would then be an option in the pop up box that appears (but only if we have relevant bonds in our collections. It's possible we have no bonds relevant to your search term.
As an example, try searching for 'mary jones' (with the '' around it) and selecting 'In the Library' from the drop down then clicking on search. You will see in the left column under 'Collections' - 'marriage bonds' (if there aren't many marriage bonds, you would have to click on 'more options' to see it). Click on 'marriage bonds' and your results will update.
If there are any marriage bonds, they will always appear after clicking on 'more options' under 'collections'.
I hope this helps. The bespoke search form is currently in development, and we hope to have it available soon.
