Title: Deaths of Jonathan Steel and Edith Campbell Walker

Hello,

I am trying to find the deaths of Jonathan Steel, born 1890 and his wife Edith Campbell Walker, born 1895.

Both of them are located in 1939 in Uckfield, Sussex with their two children, however whilst there is a death for an Edith C Steele in Hereford in 1966, this is not Jonathan's wife, but a different Edith.

I cannot find a death date for either of them, would purchasing the marriage certificate of their daughter help?

Hi Simon

It wouldn't tell you much, all it might have in the father's name column is his name and deceased. That still wouldn't tell you when or where he died.

Perhaps Jonathan died first and Edith remarried

If she remarried would she not be registered on death with her new surname?

Simon,

How do you know it's not the same Edith who died in 1966?

May seem an odd question but there can't be many people with that particular name.

Had a couple of Scotlands People credits left and decided to take a look there.

Edith Campbell STEEL other surname WALKER died age 77 in 1971 .   DALBEATTIE   /KIRKCUDBRIGHT

Exactly - which is why it would be pointless looking for a death under Steel.  Better to find Jonathan's death first

Also - there is no birth registration for an Edith Cambell Walker between 1894-1896 in E & W and I can't see either a Scottish or English 1901 entry which includes her middle name

The marriage was 1922 Brampton

She was born in Scotland, so it looks as if they returned to her home

thanks guys, some of the steele family moved to Scotland or came from Scotland, which is not surprising considering it borders cumbria
