Title: Graham
Post by: Lizzie Smyth Collis on Friday 30 September 16 08:55 BST (UK)
I'm as far back as I can get with John Graham b 1845 in Hayton, Cumberland.  I believe he married Janet Donaldson and had a number of children including my great grandfather, Robert Donaldson (1877 - 1911) I'm fairly new to this so if anybody can help me go back any further, or tell me how to do it, I'd be most grateful.

Hi,

His marriage certificate should give the name and occupation of his father;  using those details you could look for him with his parents on census records.

Have you checked out the family in census forms ?This looks like the family in 1881 address Donkins Cottage Middlebie Dumfries

Elizabeth Graham age 12 b Carlisle
Annie Graham age 10 b Carlisle
Maggie Mary Graham age 7 b Lockerbie

The father must have been working away from home as he is boarding with a Joseph and Annie Moore Carlisle

Obtaining a marriage certificate should get you their fathers names

Isaac Graham and Jane Bushby baptized children between about 1795 and 1810 , including Jane Graham  1 Nov 1810 Hayton :

This would make them the Grandparents of John Graham as  suggested in the previous post.
