This facility is amazing!
Looking for Army info on my maternal grandad who is now dead. He was born about 28 7 13 in or close to Waterfoot and 2 addresses are significant;
703 Bacup Rd Waterfoot,
568 Bacup Rd Waterfoot.
I recall him saying he volunteered as Para only because of extra pay and trained at Ringway.
We know he didn't go to Burma, mum at 8 became very ill in about 1942.
He fought in Europe after DDay.
Mum says he was frequently in trouble and thinks he may have served 1 or more military custodial sentences. Apparently he instructed his shop staff to ignore meat rationing for families with men overseas though I doubt that would have been dealt with by military authorities but there could be a link to a service offence.
I'm very keen to receive anything known as is mum.
Again, this is a really first class site with very helpful people involved.
Fingers crossed then.
Cheers.
