Hi Lorraine
The 1841 Census only shows if the people on it are born in the county or if they are not.
This signified by a Y or N.
Birthplaces weren't noted until the 1851 census.
Cheers

Found his parent - named on his death certificate ..... named John (of course!) and he was a soldier. That's it. No mother.
argh!
: )

Aw that's a pity and the marriage for John and Mary Carmichael 22/11/1846 Blairgowrie Perthshire is before 1855 Statutory Records so not much information there ..
Rosie

Well, I guess I will need to save my pennies and head over to Blairgowrie!
:)
-
Make sure you come in the summer then ... :) was looking at some of the names of his family assuming the Alan And Mary Craig were named after Mary Carmichael's parent's ..was wondering if the Miller name is from John's side ( Mary Miller Craig ) ...

Here's the line, starting from me:
Lorraine, daughter of Sylvia Craig, daughter of Ernest Craig (m Roberta Wallace), son of John Craig (m. Frances Sommerville), son of Alan Craig (m. Jane Carruthers), son of John Craig (m. Mary Carmichael), son of John Craig (m. Jane Peterkin). The "Miller" comes from Mary Carmichael's mother, Mary Miller.
: )

Oh well then that rules that out :-[

Hello all.
I am revisiting this family with hopes of finding John Craig' birth.
On his death, it says he was 85 in 1906 which puts his birth around 1820 or 1821.
I have searched SP and no luck.
John's father is listed on the death registration as John - soldier and there is no mother named.
Does anyone have some ideas of where I could look next for John, b c1820 in Blairgowrie/Edinburgh?
Thanks so much!

If it's not on Scotland's People, the record has almost certainly not survived.

Hi Lorraine,
You may already have this information but just in case you haven't, I found the following article from the Dundee Courier dated 1900 which mentions John Craig.

Andrea, thank you!
This is fantastic as it tells me where he worked and what church he belonged to.
