Hello,
I am looking to decipher what the Groom's Rank or Profession is listed as on the attached marriage cert. Any ideas?
Also the Bride's name looks like Mary Reece however there is no record of her on the 1911 census - could her surname be anything else?
-
Carter ? :)
-
I agree - I thought Carter, albeit that the first letter looks more like an 'F'..... :o
-
Maybe Porter.
-
I lean to Carter for the profession, but not sure since all the other 'C' letters are done so much clearer.
Not sure about the Bride's name, but wondering if it starts with a 'V'.

I would say it could be Vreece....although it doesn't sound right and I thought it looked like Paster.

I see Thomas Doyle's father is a gardener, is this the family in 1911?

If so could it be anything to do with butchering or had he given that up.

Mary's father just has Army, there is a birth of a Mary Reece to David a Soldier in 1893. He was in Aldershot at the time.

I think the surname is Reece - note Father's name is clearer and seems to me to be Reece
The Occupation I think is Porter

Look at how the 'B' is formed for Witness name which I think is James Brough.
Seems to me that the penmanship of the 'R' for Reece and the 'B' for Brough have the same separation from the upright part of the capital

There is a Mary Reese 17 working as a servant in 1911

I agree with Reece, and I am even surer of my earlier suggestion of Porter.
-
Thanks Sinann - that Mary Reese age 17 in the census must be her.
-
If that birth is correct and her father was in the Army it might be worth have a look at the English 1901 Census for the family.

I agree with Porter.
But Bride's surname looks to me like Preece.
