Title: Huxford (hucksford) and Sanderson Grimsby
Post by: Gwen in gozo on Saturday 04 March 17 15:47 GMT (UK)
hi does anyone know of a shop(s) in Grimsby lincolnshire called
'huxford and sanderson'
could be hucksford possible electrical type shops.
I'm looking for the family that owned these shops because they were cousins to my grandmother Marjorie Andrew as they raised her from a small child.
My grandmother was born around 1915 so I'm looking for around that time and beyond. My aunty her daughter remembers the shops as a child and occasional visits form them.
Does anyone have knowledge these shops

Hi,
Possibly a couple of snippets on Google books suggesting Edward James Huxford and Walter Sanderson electrical engineers at 57 Buller Street Grimsby. Is that too late?

Hi again,
All very tentative and I could be completely wrong, but there is a death for a Marjorie Pogson with a birth date of 28.08.1912.
There is a Marjorie Pogson in 1939 with that birthdate living in Grimsby.
She seems to have married Sidney Pogson .
The only possible birth that would correspond with birthdate and area is Marjorie Andrew mmn Davis Oct/Nov/Dec 1912 Grimsby.
So possible parents from freebmd William Adkin Andrew and Ada Davis who married in Grimsby 1911.
William Adkin Andrew was a merchant seaman and there is a seamans card for him with photo.
I think you would need Marjories marriage certificate to confirm father, there might even be helpful witness names. No help with whom  Marjorie lived with unfortunately.
Best wishes
Cathy

Cathy that is fantastic. I have today just received my grandmothers marriage certificate and her father was william adkin andrew ship steward.
Witness ada adwek (adwik) hard to tell
george pogson
Joan pogson (Not sure who that is )
She said he was deceased on it. She maybe thought this as he left her to be brought up by the family (possible cousins) who owned huxford sandersons.
I think however he went to war and then emigrated to Belgium as Ive just found a possible ww1 record.
My aunt says he then at a later date returned to Grimsby with a Belgium wife according to my aunt she thinks she was called Eva and he probably died there. (aunts information)
The missing link is the name of her mother as you say you have found records of her as Ada Davis.
The only info I have of her mother is that she went to a mental asylum in either lincoln or boston when my grandmother was small and stayed there till she died'
Heck so much found information in just a few days
thankyou
Gwen

according to the records Edward James Huxford was born 1910 so it couldnt have been him maybe it was his father Agustus Thomas Huxford. Or it could have been on the Sanderson side that was the cousins.

This one may help as well, for Herbert and ethel Raymond Huxford.  It gives the names of their children.

Lovely thanks. Eva huxford was Eva Davis my greatbgrandmothers Sister, I feel sure they must have been the ones to raise my grandmother, I assume the Huxford elecrical shop must have been their sons shop which would tie in with my aunt saying she was raised with cousins
