Title: Darton Marriage 1654
Post by: saw119 on Wednesday 08 March 17 15:09 GMT (UK)
Can anyone locate the marriage of Richard Wollen to Dyana Kell in Darton on Nov 23rd 1654. I have an entry for it in the Bradfield Parish Register, the grooms parish, but can anyone find it in the Darton records?

Many thanks, interesting that it's recorded as the 23rd in Bradfield, perhaps when the Parish Register was told. Shame there's no more detail.
I found it quite unusual that the marriage was recorded in the Bradfield register at all, it's not a common feature.

No idea - Bradfield doesn't appear in either the BTs for Yorkshire or the parish records for the West Riding.

Bradfield is part of the parish of Ecclesfield, whilst Darton is a parish in it's own right - Genuki

St Nicholas church Bradfield operated as a chapel of ease for St Mary Ecclesfield. It covered a huge area itself until it became its own parish in 1868. The register is quite frustrating and highly inconsistent.

Out of interest, the next marriage entry at Darton was dated 23 November 1654  ;)

Joseph Oxely and Anne Webster

But that marriage doesn't appear in either Boyd's or the Family Search entries.

You may be interested in the record in the Bradfield parish records. It seems they were married in Darton on 9th Nov and then banns were read in St Nicholas in November and early December. That seems a strange arrangement.

If you look at it very, very carefully you will see that the banns were read 22 OCTOBER, 29th and 5 NOVEMBER.  ;D  :-*

Of course, I was reading it Nov and Dec for some reason. Good catch  :)
