For just $8 you can have access to The West Australian 2004-current(-1 day) for 24 hours.

Of course there may not be a death notice (no entry on ryerson).   But if you have a few people to look up it can be worthwhile.

I see from other posts he had no one to collect his ashes. How sad.

Gavin had one sister and one brother. Both have now passed. He didn’t keep in touch with his family after moving to Australia.

The funeral director took his ashes from the crematorium at Karrakatta. Nothing unusual with this.  Why is this sad?

Hi

I confirm that in NSW the ashes are usually collected from the crematorium by the funeral director.  I am not sure why, but perhaps it could be so that the funeral director is responsible for ensuring that ashes are handed to the person who made the arrangements with the funeral director, including the financial aspects.  I am not sure of the W.A. practices, but in NSW it is usually the funeral director who lodges the paperwork to register the death.

Aussie-girl asked about the 2008 death earlier this year.  I would expect she was asking this to advance her own family history, and thus Gavin was a member of her own family?

Fingers crossed that Aussie-girl and Calderlass can exchange PMs and share their backgrounds.

JM

Thank you for explaining that it is normal practice for the funeral director to collect the ashes. Much appreciated.
