Title: Hickman family - Oxfordshire

I am related to the Hickman family ,probably from The Stonesfield /Woodstock area.My GGG Grandmother was Mary Hickman ,born 1776  died 1839 . She married my GGG Grandfather Daniel Smith in 1798 in Stonesfield. I havn't looked at original Parish records , which is my next step - I only know of one of their children -William Smith born 1805, my GG Grandfather. Hope I have some Hickman relatives  . Zingari

My husband has Hickman ancestors.  A Thomas Hickman, b 1804 at Standlake, married a Jane Hickman in 1841 and one of their children was Richard Hickman b 1846, also at Standlake.  We did visit a church at Standlake but couldn't find any gravestones.

There are 8 HICKMAN monumental inscriptions (MIs) at Standlake.  Oxfordshire FHS (OFHS) has photographed all the MIs for Standlake, and the photos and transcriptions are all on CD OXF-MI-STL.  See http://www.ofhs.org.uk/CDsales.html#mis

The HICKMAN name goes back to the 1500s in Oxfordshire - the oldest baptism on the OFHS database is  1564, in Milcombe.  The Standlake parish register transcripts by OFHS are on OXF-WIT03.

Thank you for the information about the gravestones.  We have a Thomas Hickman b 1804 who married Jane Hickman (?cousin) in 1841.  Thomas's father was a Stephen Hickman, b 1773 who married a Sarah Lewis....all were from Standlake.  Stephen's father was a William Hickman, b 1740, wife Elizabeth Harris, not sure on location but Bampton mentioned later as his father may have been another William Hickman, b 1715 at Bampton.
