Hi RootsChat,
Thanks for the offer but unfortunately Senhouse street is now a large car park and an old folks home.
My ancestors lived there in 1840 I would like to have seen what it looked like...
Audrey
I have tried e-mailing the Whitehaven News a couple of times with no reply

Jim,
Try Ralph Lewthwaite at rafe AT haven90.freeserve.co.uk.
He's probably your best chance, as he has hundreds of photos

Hello. I wonder if you ever found your photo.
I also had relatives in Senhouse Street, Whitehaven. On the 1881 census they are listed as James Trainer and his family but I could not find them in 1891 or 1901, except for my gg grandfather who became a mariner in Liverpool.
I was planning to visit there one day but I don't think I want to see a car park.

Hi Jim,
That is great if you getting the chance to Visit !
I may be worth giving them prior warning of your visit, then it gives them a chance to see what they have on the area.

Hi
I have Whitehaven roots too and I wanted some photos of the town, especially St Nicholas Church so I bought this book on Amazon.
"Around Whitehaven in Old Photographs" by Harry Fancy.
Printed by Budding Books, Phoenix Mill, Stroud, Gloucestershire.
ISBN No. 1-84015-231-1
It costs £ 9.99 but has masses of old photos in.
You could also try getting hold of "Rex Malden's Whitehaven".
He has pics of the 1930s and 40s.
Fascinating!
