Aged 26, Thomas is with his parents, James and Elizabeth, and sister Eliza at the Railway Hotel, Lower Cott, Dartington, Totnes. James and Thomas are "innkeepers"

The census was taken 7 April. There is an advert in the Trewman's Exeter Flying Post, 10 April 1861, re. the sale of the Railway Hotel, situate in the Parish of Dartington, now occupied by Thomas Thatcham.

Thank you- this us strange as the date of birth and place of birth is correct but I already have Thomas's true parents in Dorset in 1861 and so this cannot be the right one.
Thank you anyway.

There are 2 Thomas Matcham's on the '41 Census - both age 8.

The Thomas in Devon in '51 and '61 is at Sturminster Newton with family.

The other is at Charlton Marshall, father John, a blacksmith. Is this the Thomas you are chasing?

If only it was the other Thomas Matcham - he's a dream to follow!

Does your Thomas "disappear" after the 1851 Census or is it just the '61 Census you are lacking? I haven't  been able to find him in any Census '61 on.

There is a death in 1853 in Shaftesbury- and I can only assume this is him. Please do not search any more as it is a minor branch on the tree.

Really appreciate your help.

I checked the GRO for that Thomas - think his age was 48. The GRO delivers age at death and I had checked the deaths 1851-1861.

Oh dear- thank you so much anyway! Could you possibly look at these deaths and see if you can see the ages as these could be possibles as his siblings moved away from dorset and southampton and Lambeth are both possibles:

June 1851 Southampton
Dec 1858 Lambeth.

Many thanks indeed

Thank you- still no joy x Thomas was born around 1833 in Charlton Marshall.
Don't worry too much- it is just a minor branch of a very big tree!
