Does anyone copy records at the NLS for a price per page, please?
I've been quoted £28+ to copy four letters! The letters might be a few pages long (I don't know) but £28 is a lot especially as I don't know if the content is relevant to my researches.
Any suggestions on freelance researchers, please?

I believe the NLS may charge a fee for looking out the records? Presumably they have looked the letters out to give you the estimate....but have put them away again. Some archives charge for the estimate - it does all take time

There may be SKS on RC who is going there who can order in advance & copy them for you. Unfortunately one never knows if something is relevant until you see it.

Thanks and I realise it all takes time. I have used folk at the National Archives at Kew who copy for you for a lower fee than the NA charge.
So I'm hoping to find a similar service at the NLS...

Sorry if these seem odd questions but...
"Does anyone copy records at the NLS for a price per page"
Do you mean photo copies or transcriptions?
"I've been quoted £28+ to copy four letters! The letters might be a few pages long (I don't know) but £28 is a lot especially as I don't know if the content is relevant to my researches"
As above.
Did you enquire what was meant by 'copy' & how many pages etc?

I have asked for images (photos) of the letters, sent as PDFs if that is easier.
I just need the original letters (probably handwritten) photographed, scanned, photocopied or whatever is easiest/ cheapest.
I require no analysis, comment or explanation. Just copies of the original documents that I can read and draw my own conclusions on.

Hi Bernard,
Although Forfarian has given you a link, this is one to try as their pricing looks realistic (not over priced)...

They actually use RC to post their updates from time to time too!
Here is one of their posts...

Thanks Annie.
I'll give them a try. I did randomly contact one advertised researcher and explained what I wanted but, so far, I have had no response.
Thanks again!
