Title: ??confused??
Post by: mike4301 on Monday 27 November 17 05:21 GMT (UK)
Hi
I have two ancestors Patrick Carroll and Sara Breen marrying in Tipperary 26th September 1910. However across the Irish sea in Coatbridge, Glasgow on the same day they are being married there? ? . Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hi Mike,

I see on Scotlandspeople that in fact Patrick Caroll and Sarah Breen married as you say in Coatbridge/New Monkland - but checking on Irish Genealogy website, I cannot find the same combination of names - for a marriage..   Did find a Patrick Carroll who married Sarah Treacey on 19th July 1910, in Thurles Tipperary.

What proof do you have of a marriage of your Patrick and Sarah as stated?

Was it by banns?   A marriage takes place in one church (usually the bride's), but Banns are read three times in both the bride's and the groom's home parish

I found the Irish one on ancestry. I tried posting screenshot but it's too big.Drom and Inch is the marraige place and Anfield the residence.  Parents are the same on both marriage details??
Cheers Michael

Yes, I would guess you may have found a banns record.  I have come across a couple recorded as marrying in a country chapel a week before (apparently) marrying again in the nearby market town - in Northumberland.

That looks like a church record, what's the name on the record set?
As already said there is no civil cert for a marriage in those names.

Hi Sinann,
What do you mean by the name? It says it's from the Ireland catholic parish register?
Cheers Michael

The dates of the parish records?
If this is an RC record, Ancestry shouldn't have it, what it may be is a note on either Patrick or Sara's baptism recording who and when thay married.

Sinann is right
It's written on Patrick's baptism record at Drom and Inch, 11 July 1878
Married 26th Sept 1910 Sara Breen in Coatbridge

Nice find jonw65
Something else the transcriber got incorrect, the Carrolls didn't live in Anfield(Annfield) the Butters did. Looks to me that the Carrolls lived in Clonismullen

To add to the confusion his mother's maiden name looks like Ryan on the civil cert
Number 3

But if this is the family in 1901

Than Hynes seems to be the correct name for Margaret
Son Denis
